Illustration Friday - Caged

Sometimes it feels like we are all caged inside our own homes-- separated from each other and the world around us.

I love it when I unexpectedly find myself outside at night, maybe taking out the garbage, and I look up and- BOOM! I'm struck by the incredible and infinite beauty of the night sky. "Wow...what a world we live in!"

I think there is something fundamentally important about looking at the night sky. Last night, my five-year-old son was in bed and said to me "Mom, can I go look out the window and make sure the stars are there?"

Summer's the perfect time to get free from the walls and roof, and gaze at the stars!

  6. We had an amazingly parallel experience to what you are writing about last night. We'd had a friend over at the end of a stifling hot day and when she went home, we walked her out to her car. Outside, it was like a completely different world than the one we had just come from. The fresh, cool air and infinite sky felt like sudden freedom! Thanks for a thought provoking IF entry!

  7. "I love it when I unexpectedly find myself outside at night, maybe taking out the garbage, and I look up and- BOOM! I'm struck by the incredible and infinite beauty of the night sky." I could have written this, word by word. I often take out the garbage just for the sake of having a look at the night sky. It is good to know that I can rely on your son for checking that everything is in order with the stars.

  8. I'm so intrigued by how you made the stars!

We had so much fun camping out under the stars with the 3 of you. Theo keeps saying, "our house is nice but sleeping outside in the wilderness is so much nicer. "

    He'd understand the piece completely.

  9. Thanks for your comment on my interpretation of this week's IF topic. I like your interpretation too.

I was moved by what your son said. Tonight I'd better make sure the stars above our house are still there!
